Sonoma Launches Digital Library

Sonoma Adventist College launched its digital library, Liberty, on August 31, 2026, giving students and staff remote access to the college’s academic resources. The software, developed by Softlink Information Centers, was unveiled in an afternoon ceremony at the college attended by the entire student body and staff.
The launch was led by Deputy Academic Dean Joe Benjamin, Library Manager Lenga Ottis, and ICT Team Leader Stuart Mondo, with College Chaplain Pr. Garry Laukei and SRC President Waygon Lutu and Vice President Larrison Oltai also present.

With Liberty, users can search the college’s catalog, check book availability and access materials on their phones, laptops, or tablets without visiting the library in person. The system is built to serve the full student and staff population at once, addressing a limitation of the college’s physical library space.
By putting the library in the palm of every user, students will be able to use library services any time they feel the need to.

“This event marks more than the introduction of a new technology platform. It represents our institution’s commitment to excellence in teaching, learning, research, innovation, and knowledge management,” said Joe Benjamin, Deputy Academic Dean, in his closing remarks at the launch.
He added that the milestone reflects the college’s progress toward becoming “a modern, digitally enabled institution” equipped to prepare learners, researchers, and staff for the knowledge economy of the twenty-first century.
Liberty is the college’s second major digital rollout this year, following the launch of online student registration at the start of the second semester, which has already registered more than 500 students and eliminated long registration lines.

Founded in 1968 and affiliated with Pacific Adventist University, Sonoma Adventist College offers programs across five departments: Theology, Business, Tropical Agriculture, Building, and Education. The digital library push is part of a broader strategy to modernize operations as the institution works toward achieving university status — a goal it shares with other leading institutions in Papua New Guinea.
